9 killed, 5 injured in a road carnage at Chemoseti in Soy along Eldoret-Kitale route

At least nine people have been confirmed dead and five others badly injured after a lorry rammed a matatu at Chemoseti in Soy along the Eldoret-Kitale highway today morning.

Police said five others sustained injuries in the morning accident.

Uasin Gishu county police commander Benjamin Mwanthi said the 14-seater public service vehicle was heading to Eldoret from Kitale when it was rammed by the lorry ferrying water pipes.

According to the police, the incident that happened around 9am today.

The driver of the matatu and eight passengers were killed on the spot, while one other person died in the hospital.

The road carnage involved a lorry, registration number KBZ135x Isuzu and a matatu Toyota Hiace, registration number KCH 468D belonging to Great Rift Shuttle.

“As a result, the driver of the matatu and 8 unknown passengers were fatally injured on the spot, while 1 passenger was pronounced dead on arrival at MTRH.”

The driver of a personal vehicle fled the scene, and police are searching for him.
