Kenya has now turned to the Republic of Tanzania for help of the all crucial Tuberculosis drugs as the country grapples with biting shortage of diminishing supplies amid huge demand for patients locally.
In a rare admission that now puts the national drugs agency on the spotlight, the Kenya Medical Supplies authority (Kemsa), Health Cabinet Secretary Wafula Nakhumicha revealed that Nairobi has sought help from Tanzania.
The CS said the country has experienced shortages since October last year and has put up measures to ensure endless supply to government hospitals including changes from a single supplier to multiple suppliers.
“Towards the end of September and October last year we had a shortage of TB medication, but we went out of our way to the extent that we got support from our neighbouring country Tanzania and we got sufficient stocks which have now been distributed.” Nakhumicha said.
