As mystery surrounds the murder of former Treasury official Tom Mokaya Osinde, witnesses say the main suspect in the murder resurfaced in Kisii after being away for three years.
What astounded villagers most was that the suspect was seen driving the deceased’s car two days before the vehicle was found abandoned on June 22, two days before Osinde went missing on Saturday, June 24, 2023
Neighbours who spoke to the media on Thursday, June 29, claimed that they were forced to raise the alarm after the suspect, identified only as Mogoi, set foot in Kisii three years later, driving Osinde’s black Land Cruiser.
More village reports claim that contrary to what locals expected, the suspect did not want to speak to anyone but instead requested their assistance in washing the vehicle.
“We did not wash the inside of the car. We were told that it had a lot of luggage.” One of the neighbours recalled.
In a startling revelation, the neighbours alleged that the suspect fled from his home in Kisii after being implicated in another murder incident.
Police investigating the murder ascertained that the suspect was spotted driving the vehicle days after Osinde’s disappearance on June 18. They, however, did not corroborate the neighbours’ allegations linking the suspect to another murder case.
“We have confirmed that the suspect was driving the vehicle at the time Osinde was being sought by the family and the police; it was noted that the boot of the car had blood stains.” An officer privy to the case disclosed.
Detectives arrested the main suspect, on Wednesday, June 28, who led them to River Kuja in Migori where the decomposing body of Osinde was later discovered with area’s Assistant Chief revealing that the main suspect confessed to having dumped the body in the river next to his rural home.
However, the search and rescue team could not find the body which was later found to have been booked as a ‘John Doe’ at a morgue in the county.
Osinde’s body was, on June 29, moved to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, pending a postmortem slated for Friday, June 30.
