Seasoned parliamentarians among them Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale and Eldas Member of Parliament Aden Keynan have been selected as the key point men leading a seven member Kenya Kwanza team to engage their rival’s Azimio One Kenya Coalition team in bipartisan talks on the reconstitution of the electoral body.
The seven were selected during a Kenya Kwanza Alliance Parliamentary Group meeting held at State House in Nairobi today morning and chaired by president William Ruto.
Other members of the negotiation team include; George Murugara (Tharaka), nominated Senator Essie Okenyeri, Mwengi Mutuse (Kibwezi West), Lydia Haika (Taita Taveta) and Hillary Sigei (Bomet).
“In re-affirming our commitment to the dictates of the constitution and rule of law, the PG directs the team nominated for this bi-partisan process to strictly adhere to our constitution and established laws in addressing the re-constitution of the IEBC panel, as was communicated by the President, on Sunday 2nd April 2023.” Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot has said.
Equally, last week, Azimio picked their seven-member team all parliamentarians.
They include; Nairobi Senator and ODM SG Edwin Sifuna, Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina and Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua.
Others are MPs Otiende Amollo (Rarieda), David P’Kosing (Pokot South), Millie Odhiambo (Suba North) and Amina Mnyanzi (Malindi).
The team was picked during the Azimio Parliamentary Group meeting held in Machakos County last week and chaired by Azimio leader Raila Odinga.
On his part, addressing the media at State House shortly after the PG, the Majority Leader in the National National Assembly Kimani Ichung’wah said that the ruling coalition is committed to working with the government “on policies aimed at stabilizing our economy, lowering the cost of living, and creating jobs.”
“The parliamentary group reaffirms our commitment to the rule of law and constitutionalism and appreciates the role of the opposition to oversight and criticize this government.” He said.
