IG Koome order probe into raid of Kenyatta’s Northlands farm

The Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome has finally broken the silence following yesterday’s invasion of land owned by former Head of State Uhuru Kenyatta in Ruiru, Kiambu county.

Through a statement, the IG said that investigations into the matter have been launched and those found culpable to be held responsible.

“We also received reports of the invasion and destruction of a farm in Kiambu county. Relatedly, we received reports of invasion of a private company within Embakasi area in Nairobi in which our officers responded swiftly and prevented further crimes,” read part of the statement by the IG Koome.

The probe will also cover the invasion of East Africa Spectre Limited which is owned by the family of the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, which is located along Mombasa Road.

Also regarding yesterday’s demonstrations, the IG issued a report that security personnel are in tandem with turn of events occasioned from the ongoing mass action and picketing spearheaded by opposition leader Raila Odinga’s Azimio One Kenya coalition.

Koome said that the service has noted with concern the attacks meted on its officers and the destruction of property across some parts of the country among them two police vehicles and 23 of his officers who fell victim of the demonstrations.

The IG urged the National Police Service that has assured the public of safety to remain vigilant as they continue discharging their mandate as per the constitution without fear and favoritism.

Yesterday’s demonstrations left one dead in Kisumu, two sustaining injuries in Migori and destruction of public and private properties in Kibra, Nairobi county.
