Kenya and Algeria have had talks on partnering in the trade of various commodities including oil, gas and agricultural products between the two countries.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula held meetings with Algeria Ministers of Energy and Mines Mohammed Arkab and the Minister of Trade and Export Promotion Kamel Rezig on possibilities of trading of commodities.
According to Wetangula, Kenya intends to import oil and gas from Algeria being one of the largest oil producers in Africa.
Kenya and Algeria will mutually benefit from each other with Algeria being a huge energy sector as an oil producing company and Kenya being at the front seat in producing coffee, tea and flowers.
“Kenya has discovered oil resources but just at the initial stages of discovery and research. Algeria having traded in oil for many years will be of help to our country in aspects of refining and exchange of experience in the sector”, Wetang’ula said.
The Algerian ministers underscored the importance of strengthening business ties with Kenya and observed that Algeria was open to trade with Kenya to enhance bilateral engagement.
