Thousands of Mombasa residents today jammed the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Southern Region, regional headquarters in a last minute rush to fulfill their annual tax compliance in accordance with custom requirements.
Long ques were witnessed at the KRA’s iTax support center where KRA staff were lined up to serve the huge number of Kenyans who were whipping in and out of the center.
Majority of those interviewed said gave their main reason for filing late as a result of their employers delaying to release P9 forms while others blamed their busy work schedule.
“I have been aware of this whole process but the fact that our employer released our P9 forms just last yesterday, I had to come and file the returns here today said Kassim Mumbi a resident of Mtwapa.
Another tax compliant, George Kariuki said being a long distance truck driver with a transporting company, he has spent most his time transporting cargoes across the East and Central Africa borders and it has been difficult for him to visit the KRA office to file returns.
