Former Kinango Member of Parliament Benjamin Tayari has been appointed to be the chairman of the Board of Directors of Kenya Ports Authority (KPA).
In a Gazette notice dated January 13, 2023, Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said Tayari’s appointment takes effect immediately and will last three years.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 4 (a) of the Kenya Ports Authority Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport appoints Benjamin Dalu Tayari to be the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Ports Authority, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 13th January 2023,” said CS Murkomen.
Murkomen said the appointment of Gen. (Rtd.) Joseph Kibwana had been revoked.
Tayari will chair the board that is expected to start conducting interviews to pick the MD and conclude the shortlisting process.
The successful candidate is expected to manage different KPA ports including Mombasa, Lamu, Kisumu and Nairobi ports, and the Naivasha Inland Container Depot.
