At least 21 people have perished in a grisly road carnage after a minibus plunged into a canal in northern Egypt’s Nile Delta region, yesterday.
Official records indicate three among those dead are children.
At the time, the bus had 35 people onboard when it derailed on a highway and fell into Mansuriya canal in Aga town, in the northern governorate of Dakahlia.
Preliminary findings show the accident was caused by a malfunctioning steering wheel. However, the authorities are yet to issue a comprehensive report.
According to the prosecution, the driver was detained by police after a preliminary drug tests indicated that he may have been under drug influence while driving.
He was reportedly suspected of using a phone while operating the vehicle at the time of the collision.
