A police officer has died while two of his colleagues injured in a car crash today dawn at the Fuludhi Bridge in Ugunja, Siaya County.
According to Benedict Mwangangi, Commander of the Siaya Sub-County Police, the three were heading home after spending time at a night club in Ugunja Town.
“The three were traveling in a car from Ugunja when bright headlamps of an oncoming lorry blinded them. Their car then hit the guard rail, and rolled off before it caught fire,” he said.
Mwangangi said two officers managed to crawl out of the car while one got stuck leading to his death after the car went up in flames.
“Immediately after the crash, the two survivors managed to crawl out of the vehicle, leaving one who had been trapped. The car, thereafter, shortly went up in flames, burning the trapped occupant,” he added.
The body of the deceased was transferred to Siaya County Referral Hospital morgue while the two injured are undergoing treatment at the same hospital.
