A woman, identified as Sharon Oparanya who was arraigned in court yesterday for drunk driving charges passed out during court proceedings.
She was detained due to her inability to answer to charges by Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Nanzushi.
She slept on a bench and begun to snore loudly disrupting the ongoing court proceedings.
“Wait wait! why is she snoring in court, is that someone sleeping in my court?” the magistrate asked.
In reply, a court orderly said the woman was drunk which was the reason for her sleeping. The magistrate ordered the woman detained till today when she would sober up and answer to the traffic charges.
The magistrate later set aside the earlier order and recalled the woman, who was at the court cells, three hours afterwards to answer to the traffic charges.
After she sobered up, she informed the court that the name in the charge sheet was not hers.
When asked to produce her national identification document, she said it was not available at the moment. The prosecutor said her identification could only be authenticated by Kilimani Police Station officers who arrested and booked her.
The woman was however released on a cash bail of Sh20,000 and told to avail herself in court for a plea this morning.
