Immediate former President Uhuru Kenyatta has handed over instruments of power to President William Ruto immediately after he took oath of office.
Ruto was handed the Kenyan constitution that symbolised the country would be governed in a strong leadership which will follow the constitution to the latter.
He was then handed over the Presidential Ceremonial sword which signified transmission of power from the old administration to the new.
The sword which is made of stainless steel and coated with gold signified that Ruto was the new Commander in Chief of the armed forces and that he was served with the obligation of protecting the country.
Uhuru’s flag was then lowered as Ruto’s flag was raised. His photo was also put up as Uhuru’s was taken down.
He was then accorded the 21-gun salute.
These activities come after Uhuru promised to be in attendance and pass over power to the new administration as it is required by him by the constitution and as is the tradition after every five years.
