The Government of India has sacked three air force soldiers who irresponsibly fired a missile into Pakistan.
According to a statement given by the Indian Air Office, the trio officers responsible for the mishap have been relieved of their duties immediately.
The air force further added that after comprehensive investigations, the team found out that “deviation of Standard Operating Procedure” had led to the officers firing the missile.
The BrahMos missile fired was jointly developed by Russia and India.
This incident has heightened tensions between the two countries.
India’s government termed the occurrence truly regrettable citing technical malfunction as the reason for the missile fire.
Pakistan however wasn’t pleased with the situation and warned India’s military to be more cautious and consider the consequences of such actions. Delhi should henceforth ensure that such an accident never occurred again.
“Pakistan strongly protests this flagrant violation and cautions against recurrence of any such incident in the future,” said Pakistan army spokesman Major General Babar Iftikhar.
Rajnath Singh, India’s defence minister, however assured that the country had taken appropriate measures to ensure that such an occurrence never happened again.
The nation had now prioritised the “safety and security” of its weapon system and that shortcomings found in the system would be rectified after an inquiry.
India and Pakistan share a deep hatred for each other as they are in constant disagreement over the possession of Kashmir, with both countries claiming a stake over it.
They both however only control parts of the region.
