Kenya’s president elect William Ruto has made a jab at Raila Odinga concerning how the Azimio One Kenya Alliance Leader is able to retain elected members in his coalition despite losing in the recent elections.
Ruto made the remark while speaking to the press in his Karen home.
“I don’t know how Azimio managed to accommodate its members. You can officially see that the UDM (United Democratic Movement) has joined us” said the deputy president, William Ruto.
Prior to today’s press briefing, Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula announced that he will resign his post as Bungoma Senator in order to take up the high-ranking slot he has been nominated for in the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
Wetangula who successfully retained his senatorial position in the just concluded election has defended his move stating that he will be appointed the Speaker of the National Assembly, stating the role would make him the third most powerful leader in the country after President-elect William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua.
“I am going to be the third in command in the country. I pray to God that he gives me the wisdom to lead the National Assembly and coordinate well with the Senate,” he said in an address to the press.
“We will bring good laws to this country, advocate for pro-people budgets and ensure that Kenya will never be the same again,” Wetangula added.
In the Kenya Kwanza Alliance agreement, all party leaders in the coalition were promised high positions in government.
Musalia Mudavadi, party leader of the Amani National Congress (ANC) has been nominated for the Chief Cabinet Secretary if the Ruto led faction takes over the reins of power.
