A mother in Kericho county has named her newborn twins William Ruto and Rachel Ruto to honour the president-elect and his first lady.
On August 10, barely hours after casting her ballot at Reresik Primary School, Brenda Chepkorir, 22, a resident of Roret village in the Bureti sub-county, gave birth to a baby boy and a girl at the Kericho County Referral Hospital.
“Both my babies are in a very stable condition and at peace just like the prevailing peace in the country,” she said.
An overjoyed Chepkorir claimed she chose the names for her first children soon after giving birth to honour the recently-ended general election.
“On August 9, I went and cast my vote at Reresik Primary School and immediately afterwards on reaching home I started experiencing labour pains and my family rushed me to Kericho County Referral Hospital where I gave birth to my twins via caesarian section at around 2pm,” Chepkorir said.
However, this is not the first time Kenyans have given their newborn babies famous names. In 2015, when former US President Barack Obama visited Kenya, some moms gave their newborn male babies his name.
