Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Vice-Chairperson Juliana Cherera has sparked confusion after holding a counter press conference terming the presidential results to be on an ‘opaque nature’.
Cherera with three other commissioners; Irene Cherop, Justus Abonyo and Francis Wanderi distanced themselves from the final presidential results that were announced yesterday by the electoral agency chairman Wafula Chebukati.
“We cannot take ownership of the result that are going to be announced because of the opaque nature of this last phase of the General Election,” she said.
Cherera who was sworn in late last year by Chief Justice Martha Koome at the Supreme Court has a master’s degree in education from the Kenya Methodist University (KEMU) and a bachelor’s degree in education (arts) with a focus on geography and Kiswahili from Kenyatta University.
Cherera also completed coursework in Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) at KNEC, Strategic Leadership and Development Programme at Kenya School of Government, and Project Management at Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) (KSG).
While still enrolled at KSC, she completed a Senior Management Course (SMC).
Cherera has worked in the education and management fields for more than 18 years, having started out as a teacher.
She has previously served as a Chief Officer (CO) in the Strategic Delivery Unit of the Mombasa County Government.
The IEBC VP is also a member of the Kenya Devolution Support Programme committee.
In addition, she serves as chair of the committee for stakeholder engagement, partnerships, and voter education.
