Azimio-One Kenya Coalition Presidential candidate Raila Odinga has said that no life should be lost during or after elections.
Raila made the call for national unity and peaceful elections today when he and his running mate Marth Karua attended pre-election prayers at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi.
“We feel very privileged to participate in this special prayer. We want a peaceful country where no life should be lost. We want to see this country united. You’re a Kenyan first before you become a member of your ethnic community,” Odinga said.
As they knelt before the alter, Raila and Karua were prayed for one by one.
“I Raila Amolo Odinga son of the late Jaramagi Oginga Odinga and mama Mary Eva Odinga hereby take this opportunity to dedicate this nation, Kenya to you Almighty God of all creation in the name of the father, son and the Holy Spirit,” Raila prayed.
They also prayed for the families of the late and former presidents, Daniel Moi and Mwai Kibaki.
A special prayer was also said for outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta and his family.
The Odinga family was given a Kenyan flag to symbolize power and dominance.
The former prime minster was given a shawl of leadership, similar to the one given to Prophet Elijah in the Bible.
Meanwhile Karua was given a set of cups to use when entertaining guests at the Deputy President’s residence.
Mama Odinga was presented with a set of exquisite cooking pots by Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris.
