President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged Central Kenya residents to vote for leaders allied to the Azimio One Kenya Alliance led by presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua.
Visiting the Murang’a and Nyeri counties to inspect government projects, Kenyatta took the chance to campaign for Raila stating that he is a principled leader who will ensure the development momentum the country has attained over the last 10 years is not derailed.
He emphasized that Kenyans should not elect politicians who are only out to further their personal interests at the expense of the electorate, saying doing so would be gambling with the country’s future.
“The people of Murang’a, I have come to thank you for the work we have done together even though with challenges… I am telling you the truth, you have been lied to by people some of whom we were voted in together and I even brought them to you and asked for your support,” he said.
Kenyatta dismissed claims by Kenya Kwanza leaders that he promised to support his Deputy William Ruto stating that the latter embarked on a campaign to lie to Kenyans.
“If we fell out, it is because I told them we had to work after we were elected and do politics later but they decided to play politics anyway because that is the way they are,” he said.
He accused Kenya Kwanza leaders of targeting the president and using the chance as their entry point into the region.
He said Murang’a people have a chance to decide whether they want to be led by leaders who lie and loot or leaders of integrity who will ensure their children prosper.
Kenyatta campaigned for the Azimio leaders as Raila concluded its campaigns with a rally at Kasarani Stadium.
