Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha has instructed schools, quality assurance, and standards officials to re-inspect all private schools in readiness for junior secondary school (JSS).
Speaking at the Kenya Private Schools Association (KEPSA) conference in Mombasa, Magoha noted that the first Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) under the CBC will be taken by around 1.24 million candidates starting on November 28.
“I instruct the Quality Assurance Team to inspect all CBC classes in the next two weeks. All those that meet basic requirements must be registered. If they ask for a bribe, call me, my line is open, no one should ask for money,” he said.
Candidates will be evaluated over the course of five papers over the course of three days till November 2022, according to a schedule issued by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).
The PS for Curriculum Reform Implementation According to Fatuma Chege said the government has created criteria for putting grade six students in JSS.
Principal Secretary for Early Learning and Basic Education Julius Jwan issued a warning to schools about using holiday tuition in defiance of Ministry of Education policy.
In August 2008, the Ministry of Education outlawed vacation tuition for both public and private institutions, dubbing the extra instruction “jail tuition.”
After the first term ended on July 1, students took a ten-day break before returning to class on July 11 for term two.
