Six people have been reported dead after an accident involving a matatu and a trailer at Kosachei area near Turbo along the Eldoret-Webuye highway.
Uasin Gishu police boss Ayub Gitonga said a Nissan matatu first rammed into a lorry that was heading to Webuye.
A few minutes later another Nissan matatu from Webuye side heading to Eldoret stopped at the scene but was also hit by another lorry that was speeding to Eldoret.
According to eyewitness a 14-seater matatu which was carrying an unknown number of passengers towards Webuye rammed into a tipper that had suddenly stopped.
Shortly, another matatu of NNUS Sacco while heading towards Eldoret stopped on the left side of the road to rescue the victims.
It is during the evacuation exercise when a trailer heading to Webuye rammed onto the second NNUS Sacco matatu before overturning.
Several others were seriously injured. The matatu is still trapped under the trailer with one passenger yet to be evacuated.
Victims have been rushed to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment as efforts are underway to remove the vehicles.
The accident has caused a traffic snarl up at the Eldoret – Webuye highway with officers trying their best to ease the congestion.
