President Uhuru Kenyatta has wished his Deputy William Ruto the very best in his quest to succeed and take over the house on the hill.
Speaking during the National Prayer Breakfast at Safari Park, Kenyatta yearned the prayers of his deputy for a peaceful retirement to come true.
“It’s my prayer that we’ll end up much more united and stronger after these elections, like never before. I also do hope that the prayers of DP Ruto will come true; I’m looking forward to peace and enjoyment in the years to come. With God’s grace tutakua tunaonana huko mbele,” Kenyatta stated.
Speaking in the same event Ruto wished Kenyatta a peaceful retirement once he exits office in August asking his boss to enjoy the legacy that he has built and to enjoy every piece of the time God gave him,” Ruto prayed.
“As you Mr President it is my prayer that God will give you every aspiration of your heart and make it possible for you to enjoy the legacy that you have built and to enjoy every piece of the time God will give you. That is my prayer,” Ruto stated amid laughter from the gathering.
With only two months left to the general election, the political wedge between the two seems to be widening.
Politicians allied to Ruto have been calling on Uhuru to retire warning him against engaging in politics after he publicly endorsed Raila Odinga as his preferred successor.
The Head of State who previously shared a table with his Deputy and speakers of the National Assembly and Senate during such events did not seat anywhere close to his political friend turn foe.
Kenyatta shared a table with Chief Justice Martha Koome and Attorney General Paul Kihara while Deputy Ruto shared a table with Speakers Justin Muturi and Kenneth Lusaka.
The National Prayer Breakfast is an annual ecumenical event offered under the auspices of the Co-Patrons, the Speaker of the Senate and the National Assembly.
The purpose of the National Prayer Breakfast is to meet, engage, interact and together pray for the nation in the company of fellow leaders from all sectors of society.
