Absa Bank Kenya Limited Chief Operating Officer James Njoroge Muchiri has been picked as Johnson Sakaja’s running mate for the Nairobi gubernatorial contest under the Kenya Kwanza Coalition ticket.
This comes hours after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announced the May 16 deadline for naming running mates.
Njoroge had contested in the recent concluded United Democratic Alliance (UDA) primaries for the Nyandarua governor’s seat but lost out to businessman Kiarie Badilisha.
The Azimio One Kenya Coalition camp announced its final line-up for the capital city last Friday.
In a similar manner to Raila Odinga’s Azimio, William Ruto’s camp has delved into the corporate world to round up its line-up for the contest for Nairobi’s seats.
Former Equity Group Holdings chief operating officer Polycarp Igathe, assisted by former Kibwezi MP Philip Kaloki, will fly the Azimio flag in the city.
Njoroge is a business leader who worked as a computer science lecturer at the University of Nairobi and as an information technology consultant at KPMG before joining Absa as Chief Operating Officer.
Njoroge has worked as a Project Manager at Standard Chartered Kenya before becoming the Director of Standard Chartered Botswana.
Before joining Absa, he worked for NIC Bank as Director of Technology and Operations and Managing Director of NIC Bank Tanzania.
