Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha has announced that Form One selection results will be released by Tuesday, next week.
Speaking at Kenya High School where he commissioned a Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) classroom, Magoha said that 1.2 million learners will all join Form One under the 100 percent transition policy.
He stated that Form One placement is progressing well and will be completed well within schedule.
“The results could be out if we are lucky Monday or Tuesday. I want to go there personally and make sure that no one has corrupted the process. We shall be fair,” he said.
CS Magoha also stated that the selection criteria will be based on affirmative action considering geographical distribution countrywide such that all top students from across the country will be put together before they are placed in national schools.
“Kenya is a rainbow country. If you come to Kenya High School, I would like the top Samburu student to be here who has done her exams in Maralal, not in Nairobi. Then I go to the slums in Kibera and do the same. We shall have affirmative action whether other parents approve or not,” he stated.
On KCSE marking, he assured that it is being done with integrity and that the ministry anticipates the results will be out by the end of the month.
Previously, Magoha had stated that all 2021 KCPE candidates will join secondary but the KCPE mark will not guarantee placement to candidates’ school of choice.
According to the ministry on placement of Form Ones, the top five candidates from each county are usually placed in national schools based on available places, quota system, individual learner’s choice, and performance.
At the same time, top students are expected to attend their preferred Extra-County school.
According to Magoha, Nanyuki High School received the most applications last year, with a total of 154,524 applications compared to a capacity of 384 students.
Kenya High School, Alliance High School and Alliance Girls’ attracted more students than other top-performing schools.
Kabianga High was the second most popular school with 142,640 candidates vying for 480 spots followed by Pangani Girls’ High with 124,982 applicants vying for 384 spots.
Nyandarua High School came in fourth with 123,976 candidates vying for 288 spots.
With 105,053 applications competing for 384 Form One spots, Alliance Girls’ High School landed in fifth place.
