Former Nairobi governor Evans Kidero will battle out for Homa Bay gubernatorial seat as an independent candidate after the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) issued Gladys Wanga direct nomination.
Kidero dismissed her endorsement as inconsequential saying he was not among the people who were consulted for the consensus.
He said that he was not invited to the meeting where all the seven aspirants agreed to sacrifice their bids and back Wanga.
“I was not called to attend any meeting to discuss consensus for the gubernatorial seat. But I have just heard that the ticket has been issued,” Kidero said.
He said he will explore alternative avenues to run as a governor in the August 9, polls.
“They are talking of issuing the ticket based on consensus. My views were not sought yet I am also an aspirant who paid nomination fees. Why did they exclude me,” he said.
Kidero asked his supporters to remain calm and assured them of being the on ballot.
ODM leader Raila Odinga announced yesterday afternoon, March 31, that the Party had issued a direct ticket to Wanga, who has teamed up with Oyugi Magwanga.
If elected on August 9, Magwanga will serve as Wanga’s deputy.
