Vehicle attacks in the North Eastern region of Kenya have been on the rise in recent years with many people losing their lives on the road.
According to reports, one person was killed and two others were seriously injured after their vehicle was attacked on Sunday in three other separate incidents in Marsabit county.
The first incident happened at Gof Choba area on the Moyale-Marsabit highway, another one in Horondera while the third, believed to be a revenge attack, took place near Marsabit town.
Police who responded to the scenes said they did not find the gunmen.
Both police officers were flown to Nairobi while a young girl who was in the bus died of her injuries.
Marsabit County Commissioner Paul Rotich confirmed the body of a man in his mid-20s was found in the town on Sunday morning.
“Two people lost their lives and 12 others were injured in three separate criminal incidents that were reported in Marsabit town, Segel and Gof Choba areas,” Rotich said.
The body was taken to the Marsabit Referral Hospital mortuary.
Police say they have intensified operations and investigations to arrest those behind the attacks.
In January at least 10 passengers were killed and many others wounded when their matatu ran over a bomb set on the road along the Arabia-Mandera highway.
The matatu was ferrying an unknown number of passengers to Mandera town when it ran over an Improvised explosive device.
Northeastern regional commissioner James Kianda had earlier urged residents to co-operate with the state in fighting against terrorists.
Kianda said for a region to be completely secure and devoid of any attacks, there must be co-operation between the security teams and wananchi.
This came after recent terror attacks in Mandera and Wajir counties that left 11 people dead and dozens injured.
Kianda said information sharing is key in deterring any would be attacks.
He said all citizens should be patriotic at heart, adding that this was the only sure way of protecting our motherland against individuals with an evil mind of causing bloodshed and killing.
