Former Premier Raila Odinga is expected to visit the United Kingdom for a five-day official visit. His visit is expected to happen soon after his most anticipated major rally, which is yet to be confirmed.
During the visit, Raila is expected to hold talks with members of the Commonwealth secretariat between March 15 and 16.
The talks are geared towards strengthening democracy, peace and stability and democracy in the 54 member states of the Commonwealth.
Former Premier is also expected to meet with various representatives of Kenyans living in the United Kingdom.
This will go a long way in helping garner votes ahead of the Diaspora vote that is expected to for the first time in history in at least 12 diaspora countries.
The UK, USA, Canada, South Sudan, Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Germany are among the diaspora countries that will be headed to the polls on the August 9, 2022.
His visit will come few days after Deputy President William Ruto jets back to the country after a 12-day trip abroad.
Trips to international destinations such as USA and the UK show the importance and impact of the international community when it comes to democracy.
Civil society is indicating that this year’s elections will go beyond providing funds for election and rather focus more on the technical support to validate the electoral process.
Meanwhile, London-based policy institute Chatham House confirms a scheduled engagement with Raila Odinga after DP Ruto’s lecture.
