A group of leaders allied to Azimio la Umoja warned Deputy President William Ruto’s camp against directing insults at President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking at gatherings in Ol Jabet, Maili Saba and Nyahururu town, the Azimio group told Ruto and his allies that as the holder of the highest office in the land, Kenyatta deserves to be respected.
The leaders, who included Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho, Kieni Member of Parliament (MP) Kanini Kega, Sabina Chege, Suna East MP Junet Mohammed, Narok Senator Ledama ole Kina, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Stanley Muiruri Muthama (Lamu) and the chairman of Raila’s election Board, Ndiritu Muriithi, who is also Laikipia governor, were speaking when they took the Azimio campaign to Laikipia West.
“Ruto has been abusing the President and it would be bad for “Nyumba ya Mumbi’ (House of Mumbi) to vote for someone who is abusing their son,” Ole Kina said.
According to the Senator, Odinga’s presidency will bring benefits to Kenyans, including social support for poor families.
Sabina stated that they have refused to be drawn into the culture of abuse perpetrated by those on the DP side.
Junet claimed that Ruto’s camp had run out of ideas prompting them to hurl insults at the President and Azimio.
He claimed that the Ruto camp was plotting to destabilize the DP if it lost the elections.
He instructed the ICC to take note and take appropriate action if necessary. The Suna East MP warned Kenyans against electing Ruto as the fifth President, claiming that he can change the constitution to stay in power indefinitely.
Public outburst between Kenyatta and Ruto has been seen after the President called out his principal assistant over hypocrisy.
Ruto pointed out that it would be reckless for someone to ignore his contribution.
“You cannot deny me as Deputy President the credit in the many things we have achieved as a government. It is not going happen my friends,” he said
Ruto parted ways with his boss due to his political ambitions to succeed him stressing that he will not be cowed into succumbing to threats and intimidation from those who continue to undermine his role.
Kenyatta criticized Ruto for taking credit for government projects he had not participated in implementing.
In a no-holds-barred attack, the President accused Ruto of spending his time moving around and addressing Kenyans from the top of his car and spreading untruths.
He noted his deputy’s style of “working from the top of a vehicle” saying real service delivery was never accomplished through politicking but by hard work and good leadership.
“Dwelling on empty politics and yet you have nothing to show is a waste of time. Real work cannot be done from the rooftop of vehicles. It is done in offices, in hospitals. A nurse cannot go saying I have done this or that. They go to the hospital and work in the wards and in theatre. (Lakini mambo ya kuongea maneno matupu huku hakuna kitu unafanya. Kazi haifanywi juu ya gari inafanywa kwa maofisi, kwa mahospitali. Nurse haendi huko kusimama kupiga mdomo ati unajua mimi leo mimi nimefanya hii na ile… anaingia kwa mahospitali, kwa wodi, anaingia theatre.”) he said.
Ruto affirmed that he is ready to face his competitors at the August polls where he exuded confidence that the Kenya Kwanza Alliance will emerge victorious with a landslide win.
