Police in Nyali, Mombasa County have launched investigations after seizing two cars used in two separate robberies within the areas less than a week ago.
Detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) intercepted and detained in separate places within the town yesterday.
None of the gang members was in the cars by the time police intercepted them, however, they found individuals who had separately hired the vehicles
“Detectives established that seated behind the wheels at the time were loyal and peace-loving Kenyan citizens, who had separately hired the vehicles to use in running personal errands within the coastal suburbs,” read the police report.
According to the police, the gang allegedly broke into a Toyota Prado at the Nyali City Mall and made away with valuables worth Sh700,000.
“Valuables worth over Sh700,000 had been stolen in the Sunday morning incident, and detectives have been pursuing the perpetrators captured in CCTV footage obtained along the mall,” stated the report.
Further investigations revealed that a vehicle belonging to the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) was also broken into on the same day.
The car hire agencies affected have since been summoned at the Nyali DCI offices, as a manhunt for the suspects continues.
