Deputy President William Ruto has vowed to crach President Uhuru Kenyatta’s proposed alliance with the opposition leaders in next year’s General Election.
Ruto criticised the new-found unity, One Kenya Alliance bringing together his political rivals ODM leader Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), Moses Wetang’ula (Ford Kenya) and Gideon Moi (Kanu) saying it will not stop his ascension to the Presidency.
Speaking after attending a service at St Francis of Asisi Catholic Church in Dagoretti North, Ruto said the country’s priority should not be how some leaders plan to share power after elections, but how an economic revolution can be created to enable the people to create more jobs and opportunities.
“We want unity of purpose. All of us in positions of power must find means of representing and uniting all Kenyans. I know those five or six men are heading to Naivasha to apportion themselves positions but that should not be our priority as a nation,” he said.
He reiterated that political unity and stability can only be meaningful if it is not about leaders sharing power.
Ruto claimed that his bottom-up approach is the silver bullet of the next year’s polls stating that he’ll continue advocating for the interests of hustlers.
His remarks came in reference to the meeting convened by Kenyatta who met ODM party leader Raila and OKA co-principals Gideon Moi (Kanu), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) and Moses Wetang’ula (Ford-K) at State House, Mombasa.
They discussed various subjects, including the impact of the virus on the country, maintaining peace, unity, and national cohesion, as well as matters of revamping the economy.
The agenda of the meeting is reported to also have been about Kenyatta’s wish of uniting the five leaders, in order to form a formidable team to face Ruto in 2022, who has fallen out with the President.
