A 35-year-old man was shot dead today morning at Winners apartments in Ruiru, Kiambu County as he confronted thugs in an attempt to save his girlfriend.
According to Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the deceased, Geoffrey Sigei, and his girlfriend, Winfred Kairuthi, had arrived from Ashaki grill in Thome estate where they had spent the evening before being attacked by the thugs.
“The deceased Geoffrey Sigei and his girlfriend Winfred Kairuthi, 34 had arrived at the apartment in two separate vehicles at around 4.30 am, when they were confronted by armed thugs,” DCI said.
Samuel Wafula, the apartment’s guard, told detectives that after Winfred and the deceased entered the gate, the thugs forcefully followed them inside.
“After the vehicles had gone past the main gate, three men forced their way inside, went straight to Winfred’s vehicle and began ransacking it,” he said.
When the deceased saw the thugs confronting his girlfriend, he went to her aid and confronted the thugs holding a rungu.
“The armed thugs then opened fire and shot him on the abdomen as they fled the scene, attracting the attention of police officers who were on patrol nearby. Neighbors who had heard the commotion responded to the incident and rushed Sigei to RFH hospital in Ruiru, where he, unfortunately succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment,” DCI added
Detectives recovered two spent cartridges of 9mm callibre from the scene.
Investigations into the murder have been launched as detectives follow crucial leads to unravel the suspects.
