A multi-agency team has been formed to conduct a search and rescue operation of a police officer attached to the General Service Unit (GSU) headquarters in Ruaraka, Nairobi went missing on Friday, July 9.
The 36-year-old, Corporal Joseph Otieno, was reported missing by his wife Caroline Odhiambo on July 11 at the Kasarani Police Station.
According to Odhiambo, Otieno’s phone was on until 11:13 pm on Friday.
“Efforts to trace him have been in vain since his phone was switched off and whereabouts unknown. His phone signal was last located around Naivas Supermarket in Ruaraka before being switched off,” the police report read.
Detectives also discovered a car reportedly hired by the officer a few days before, abandoned in Mwiki, Kasarani.
The abandoned car was subjected to forensic analysis for clues and was later towed to the police station.
Otieno was attached to the armory at the GSU and had also served at the VIP protection unit.
GSU officers have also joined the search, which began yesterday and is now in its second day.
His disappearance comes in the wake of increasing kidnapping cases countrywide.
Security consultant and former Kenya Air Force commander Mwenda Mbijiwe went missing on June 17.
