Police have set up a multi-agency team to handle any incidences that may occur ahead of the 2022 general elections.
Addressing County and Regional Police Commanders during the Inspector General’s Conference at the Kenya School of Government, Kabete, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i said they are going to map out hot spots areas beginning next week.
“We are better prepared now and better organised now more than before. We are going to have our Multi-agency team the technical arm that is coordinated with our PS begins the road map and the countdown from next week,” he said.
He said that they are determined to ensure there will be no repeat of election violence that will ruin the stability of the country during the upcoming general election.
Matiang’i urged Kenyans to shun any politician fueling violence and report any such politicians immediately.
“I want to ask you my brothers and sisters, you are Kenyans as much as we your leaders are, do not be intimidated and let us not give into anything that will hurt the stability of our country,” he said.
According to him, the country’s stability is always destroyed by politicians who incite Kenyans to start violence.
He added that kidnapping incidents are some of the issues that pose a major threat ahead of the 2022 polls.
“We have agreed that we will deploy special and aggressive resources to deal with this issue. It is a very small matter, as already the he DCI has made great strides in tracking these gangs behind the same,” he said.
He said some of the reported issues are out of illegal business dealings which backfire and lead to abductions and killings.
“Some of these incidents involve criminal business attitudes, some of our people have a predatory attitude. People get into informal but criminal business arrangements but when they go south they now resort to murdering each other. We are however sorting it,” he said.
When the issues gets out of hand, the parties involved tend to create an impression that police have a challenge in solving it, he said.
