A freight train used to ferry petrol caught fire while in motion causing panic among residents of Murang’a county.
According to Kenya Railways, the train developed electric failure which led to a small fire and smoke.
“The electric fault that led to a small fire and smoke to billow out of the locomotive engine was quickly identified and fixed,” stated Kenya Railways.
Firefighters from the Murang’a government were in time to put out the fire.
The train was removed from service as a safety precaution and to prevent from further damage.
Kenya Railways confirmed that another engine was dispatched from Nairobi in a recovery effort and to ensure the wagons are safely transported to Nairobi Central Workshops.
