A senior clerical officer has been charged with receiving a bribe of Ksh2500 from a Kenyan seeking a birth certificate.
Ya’qub Abubakar Omar, is an officer at the civil litigation department in the office of the Attorney General.
Omar is said to have requested a financial benefit of Ksh2500 from Calistus Walunda in consequence that he would release a birth certificate of his daughter.
At the Milimani Law Court, Omar was charged with two counts of demanding and receiving a bribe contrary to the law.
Omar, before Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti, pleaded not guilty to both charges.
The court has granted him a cash bail of Sh100,000 or a Bond of Sh500,000.
On September 10, 2019, Omar received the said bribe along Aga khan walk within Nairobi.
