25 among 70 people aboard a bus killed in Tanzania road carnage, president Suluhu say

At least 25 people including foreigners have perished and scores badly injured following a passenger bus crash in northern Tanzania, president Samia Suluhu Hassan announced today.
The accident occurred yesterday evening when a truck driver lost control of his vehicle on the road linking Arusha and Namanga and collided with three other vehicles, president Suluhu said in a statement.
The victims included one girl, 10 women and 14 men. Among them were an American, a Kenyan and a South African.
At least 21 people were injured in the accident, including people from Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Switzerland, Britain and Mali, the statement said.
One of the vehicles was transporting foreigners who were volunteering at a school in Arusha, it said.
Yesterday, at least nine supporters of South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) were killed in a bus crash as they were travelling home after attending a key electoral rally.
Road and traffic authorities said about 70 people were aboard the vehicle when it lost control and rolled over near the eastern town of Paulpietersburg.
The victims were among the tens of thousands of people who crowded into a football stadium in Durban for the launch of the ANC’s election manifesto.
