Coast Coordinator Nelson Marwa has directed that Ministry of health mobile clinic containers currently lying at the NYS yard in Miritini Mombasa be removed immediately to pave way for construction of drug-addicts rehabilitation center.
The directive has re-ignited the debate over the mobile clinics which are embroiled in the controversy of the multi-billion Afya house scandal.
According to Ministry of health, the containers sourced from China were supplied by Estama Investments Limited which had exclusively won the deal to supply the mobile clinics to the tune of Sh 1 billion after entering into contract with the Ministry to supply 100 mobile clinics on July 17, 2015.
Estama were reportedly paid Sh 800 million and supplied the containers which have been sprawling idle at the NYS camp since June last year when they were imported.
It still not clear exactly why the clinics have remained idle at the yard for this long in spite information indicating that they were meant handle among other cases emergency services in remote and slum areas.
But soon after the Afya house scandal flared-up late last year, Health Cabinet Secretary Cleopa Mailu said the Ministry was awaiting for authorities in various places where the containers were destined to duly finalize with the putting up of sites where the containers were to be installed before the distribution is done.
Mailu said that one of the containers was transported to Nairobi for demonstration to Government officials.
