Police have arrested twenty-one illegal aliens of Ethiopian origin in Nairobi’s Kiamaiko area in Huruma during a sting operation.
Intelligence reports showed that they were being trafficked to South Africa through Kenya.
They are; Demeke Anito Etaro aged 20 years, Tedewose Brihanu Lafebo (18), Molito Grina Forsido, (20), Terefa Dole Ase (20), Johar Hussein Abau (25), Towfik Abdulahi Lalu (22), Nasir Sultan Umar (20), Ekoi Fakissa Ufuro (18), Asefa Noctamo Lacebo (17), Terengis Mishamo Keli (18), Dagefe Eromo Anoso (30), Tofiq Yissa Bule (16), Mangistu Erfo Ankye (18), Dagefe Awolo Ergicho (17), Ermiyse Abuye Dobamo (18), Tarefe Makango Gobamo (18), Ayano Grima Mamo (20), Yosef Lenjebo Andiso (18), Gazegno Shango Sabeko (19), Zerhun Haile Erose (18) and Eshetu Tedesa Defera (19).
“They are being profiled through an interpreter who understands Amharic in a bid to unravel those behind the syndicate,” read the police report.
They will be charged for the offence of being unlawfully present in Kenya as detectives continue investigating those behind the cross-border human trafficking syndicate.
In February, arrested seven Ethiopians in Mtito Andei, Makueni county for being in the country illegally.
While in January, police arrested ninety-one Ethiopian nationals who were in the country illegally during a crackdown in Kitengela, Kajiado county.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the immigrants were arrested after an earlier attempt to escape from a house where they had been detained.
Many Ethiopians are arrested in the country as they attempt to transit to countries like Tanzania and South Africa.
