Buzeki to run for Uasin Gishu governor as independent candidate
Billionaire businessman Zedekia Bundotich popularly known as Buzeki will square it out as independent candidate with Uasin Gishu governor nominee for Jubilee Party ticket Jackson Mandago during the August 8 General Election.
Bundotich who was floored by the incumbent at the just concluded party primaries said that will campaign for the reelection of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto in his bid to dethrone Mandago.
Speaking to the press at his secretariat office in Eldoret town yesterday, Bundotich alleged that his votes were stolen at various polling stations by agents of his competitor.
He asked hundreds of his supporters not to be discouraged over the outcome of the tribunal verdict noting that his name will be on ballot come August general election.
Bundotich exuded confidence that he will trounce Mandago during the coming election owing to the popularity and good will he enjoys among various communities living in the area.
“I have decided to run as independent candidate during the August 8 general election since my appeal which I filed with the party tribunal citing several malpractices were dismissed and instead upheld the results of my competitor,” said Bundotich.
Bundotich alleged schemes by his competitor to scuttle his political ambition of becoming the next governor of the devolved unit by sponsoring youth to attack his convoys whenever in town.
“My competitors have hatched plans to ensure I do not campaign in my strongholds especially in Eldoret town ahead of the August polls due to my rising popularity,” he said.
But in a quick rejoinder, Mandago said he has nothing to do with the political woes bedeviling his rival and asked him to leave him alone. He told Bundotich to stop making him a escape goat of his political failures and focus on key issues that were beneficial to the residents of the county.
Meanehile, Nyeri senator seat aspirant Daniel Wamahiu has announced that he will be on the ballot as an independent candidate after he missed the Jubilee ticket in the just concluded primaries.
The aspirant who emerged number two in the hotly contested primaries garnered 84000 votes against Engineer Ephraim Maina who garnered over 120 000 votes.
