Former Kemri boss Davy Koech fined Sh19million for fraud
Former Kenya Medical Research Institute (Kemri) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Davy Koech has been found guilty for fraudulent acquisition of public property.
He was and Sh19.6 million or serve a six months jail term.
Principal Magistrate Victor Wakumile ruled that if the former medical research boss is unable to raise the fine, he will be convicted to a half year term.
Koech was accused of transferring Sh19.3 million from Kemri’s bank accounts to his personal accounts when he was serving as the Mananging Director of the institute.
The money was to finance his children’s education abroad.
The funds had been allocated to the Center for Disease Control, Kisumu region.
However, the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has said it is dissatisfied with the sentence and will be seeking an enhancement of the same at the High Court.
