Security agencies raise ‘boba boda gang’ security concern in Kirinyaga ahead of Mashujaa celebrations

Competing parties that have been engaging in silent cold war battles that have now morphed into full blown power overtures and influence posturing between politicians and senior civil servants in Kirinyaga County have been called to order, we can now reveal.

The Informer has authoritatively learnt that security agencies have raised security concern over ‘boda boda gang’ meant to shout down at certain leaders and cause chaos.

“There is concern if this goes unchecked they can easily engage in violence.” A source privy with the matter intimated.

The October 20 Mashujaa Day celebrations to be presided over by His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta at Wang’uru Stadium has been preceded by open contest amongst leaders trying to outdo each other for political ends.

Yesterday, at Kutus, Kirinyaga county leaders alongside Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho convened a preparatory meeting to diffuse tension and come up with common arrangement to ensure the national celebrations do not degenerate to an intra-county shouting competition at President Uhuru’s Mt Kenya backyard.

“So the other issues that have been of concern here and there and especially on matters to do with security and political competition and we have discussed that and agreed that as Kirinyaga people, that we will represent the Kirinyaga people well. And we will not do anything that will whatsoever that will either embarrass any leader or embarrass the Head of Sate having been given the honour to host such a great day. So we were just discussing because it comes during a time it is also a political season.” Governor Anne Waiguru said.

“Politicking is not enemity, people don’t have to rise temperatures simply because they are competing and we have agreed as Kirinyaga people we shall have the healthiest competition politically in this county. All the leaders aspiring, former, sitting were here so that’s the agreement that we have put together but most importantly our commitment to the leadership here to uphold peace during these celebrations.” Kibicho noted.

Narc Kenya Martha Karua who is coordinating Mt Kenya political caucus to determine the region’s interests ahead of the 2022 gneral elections was also present.

Yesterday’s meeting was preceded by a meeting at Kandongu village, Mwea constituency attended by Kibicho, Kirinyaga Women Representative Purity Wangui Ngirici,  an ally of Deputy President William Ruto and his party United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and her husband flamboyant businessman Andrew Ngirici among other leaders.

Although Kibicho has been on record saying he’s not interested in the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat, he has, however, been a fierce critic of the Deputy President Ruto’s hustler and wheelbarrow narrative saying the youth need empowerment through sustainable government programs.

However, his camaraderie with the Ngirici, Ruto’s political ally and an aspiring governor has been met with mixed reaction particularly by governor Waiguru and Ngirici’s political arch rival.

They even shook hands, signifying that they had reconciled.

“I know I have offended you and I do apologise to you in front of the people of the county,” Ngirici told the PS.

They said there was no need to fight forever.

In what is believed to have been in reference to the Kibicho-Ngirici unlikely meet up, Waiguru posted on her Twitter handle: “Shouldn’t priority be saving Laikipia instead of early campaigns?”

On the other hand, Kibicho said Ngirici had frequently hurled insults at him but he had forgiven him.

“I also say sorry if I have ever abused Ngirici. Leadership is about forgiving one another. We should now focus on unity…Lest I be mistaken, I’m not here to prevail upon Wangui to cross over to President Uhuru’s political camp. Neither am I leaning on UDA. I have come here because of the unity of the region. I, as the PS Interior cannot come here and tell the police to lobe teargas on Kirinyaga people. According to how he (Andrew Ngirici) has organised you, it shows he is a real general.” Kibicho is partially quoted saying on a video that has since gone viral.
