Three people killed in Meru over grazing land

Three people have been killed by cattle herders and one injured in Igembe North subcounty in Meru County.

The incident took place yesterday in the afternoon where the cattle herders were grazing their cattle in an area that is said to be belonging to Meru county residents and in which the residents do their farming and after the residents asked questions as to why they were grazing their cattle on their farms, there emerged a heated exchange of gunshots which left the three men dead and one injured.

Speaking to the media, the residents expressed their dissatisfaction and lack of faith in the security system bestowed to them by the government stating that it is not effective at all.

They further said that they are peaceful people but the herders keep on coming to their lands. They urged the government to find a way of making it possible that the herders stay in their territory to avoid war in the area.
