UDM expels two Isiolo MCAs after meeting with Governor Guyo
Recently, the Assembly impeached Guyo but he was saved by the Senate after a majority of the legislators accused the MCAs of violating the laid procedures
Two members of the Isiolo County Assembly, Fozia Jibril and Amina Omar, have been expelled by the United Democratic Movement (UDM) party over alleged gross misconduct, disregard for party summons, and non-payment of party contributions contrary to its constitution and code of conduct.
The expulsion of the two was confirmed yesterday by the Isiolo County Assembly Speaker Mohammed Roba, who announced the decision received from the party in a letter dated July 14, this year, confirming the expulsion of the two Members of the County Assembly (MCAs).
According to the party, Fozia failed to honour summons to appear before the disciplinary committee and failed to pay a fine of Sh500,000.
‘‘The National Executive Committee proceeded under the 2024 UDM Disciplinary Committee Rules, and the expulsions take immediate effect,’’ the Speaker read in his communication to the house.
Roba acknowledged the communication, directing immediate action by the Standing Orders and legal framework.
Fozia and Amina were part of the five MCAs who met Governor Abdi Guyo recently after their failed impeachment attempt.
This is even as the Speaker communicated the change in leadership of the majority and minority by the Kenya Kwanza and Azimio Coalitions in the Assembly.
Francisco Letimalo of Kanu was dewhipped as the leader of the minority party and replaced by Cherab Ward MCA Halima Abgudo, also of the Kanu.
Oldonyiro ward MCA and Deputy Speaker David Lemantile of KANU was also removed from the House Business Rules and Privileges Committee and replaced by Wabera ward MCA Salesio Kiambi.
The current composition of the Committee now includes the speaker as the chairperson, Abubakar Abdi Godana, Leader of Majority Party, and Agbudo with Nicholas Lorot and Salesio Kiambi as members.
The house adjourned until July 29 following a motion moved by Nicholas Lorot to allow for urgent renovation works on the Assembly chambers that were vandalised by goons on June 26.
Recently, the Assembly impeached Guyo but he was saved by the Senate after a majority of the legislators accused the MCA’s of violating the laid procedures for impeaching a governor.
