Majority of Kenyans disapprove broad-based government, poll survey shows

A majority of Kenyans are still skeptical about president William Ruto’s move to form a broad-based government according to a new poll released by Poli-track Africa.
In the survey released today, February 21, 2025, 41.3 per cent of Kenyans do not support the decision to form the broad-based government while 36.7 per cent approve of the decision.
Another 22 per cent are undecided exactly seven months into the coming together of the new found relationship between president Ruto and opposition supremo Raila Odinga.
At the same time, those interviewed had varied responses on whether the broad – based government will prioritize delivery of services to Kenyans with 22.1 per cent optimistic of tangible results while 21.3 per cent believe it is highly unlikely that there will be keen interest on what mwananchi wants.
However, noting that Principal Secretaries carried the burden of ministries and do the accounting at the different positions they hold, there is guarded optimism across Kenyans on their impending reshuffle, with 41.8 per cent of Kenyans approving of changes while 33.7 per cent did not agree.
Another 24.5 per cent are not sure on whether the president should effect changes to the principal secretaries or not.
In the poll that sampled 1,068 respondents aged 18 years and above, through a telephone interview, majority also want those above 60 years not included in government, insisting it was time for fresh ideas that would push Kenya’s agenda on the international map
The survey has also ranked Principal Secretaries (PSs) that should be retained should president Ruto action on the impending reshuffle expected anytime.
Immigration and Citizen services PS Julius Bitok tops the list together with his energy counterpart Alex Wachira. Both tie at 76.5 per cent.
Public Health and professional standards PS Mary Muthoni also ranks high on those Kenyans want retained at her docket with an approval rating of 76.2 per cent.
PSs Elijah Mwangi (Mining), Joseph Mungai (Roads), and Aurelia Rono (Parliamentary Affairs) close the list of top 5 favourites to retain their positions according to the poll
