Stage set for NOCK elections as candidates present papers to IEBC
Current Secretary General Francis Mutuku will face off with Deputy President Shadrack Maluki
The race for National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) top leadership is officially on with the Francis Mutuku- led group presenting their nomination papers to the Independent Electoral & Boundaries Commission.
Mutuku, who is current sitting NOCK Secretary General and Tennis Kenya Federation Vice-President, has dubbed his group “Team Service” and has expressed confidence of replacing his outgoing boss Paul Tergat in the April 25 elections.
Those eying to deputise Mutuku are Anthony Otieno Ombok (Jamal) from Boxing Federation of Kenya, who is seeking 1st Vice-president Seat and Anthony Kariuki of Wrestling Federation, to is seeking 2nd Vice-President seat.
Others include Weightlifting Federation’s John Ogola, who is gunning for Secretary General position, former Kenya Shujaa Captain Humphrey Khayange (Assistant Secretary General) and Shooting Federation’s Mohamed Shoaib Vayani (Treasurer) . Additionally, Basketball Federation of Kenya (BFK) Chairman Paul Otula will be vying for the Assistant Treasurer position.
“Team Service” has also lined up former Tennis Kenya boss Paurvi Rawal, Nderitu Gikaria from Handball Federation, Gakuo Ndirangu of Squash Federation and Doreen Okwiri of Shooting Federation for membership positions.
Mutuku will be vying against current NOCK Deputy President and Africa Judo Union Chairman Shadrack Maluki who has served for 8 years in his current post. His wealth of experience in sports administration is said to be his biggest weapon.
His “Team New Dawn Fresh” includeS Barnaba Korir of Athletics Kenya running for the post of First Vice President, Rtd (Col) Nashon Randiek of Hockey Union for the Second Deputy President seat, and Andrew Mudibo, President of the Kenya Table Tennis Association, who is vying for the post of Secretary General.
Others on the team are Dr Francis Karugu (Deputy Secretary), Fred Chege (Fencing) as Treasurer, Charles Mose (Cycling) as Deputy Treasurer, Lilian Mududa Waweru as the Women’s Representative, Eliud Kipchoge (Athletics) as the Athlete Representative for Men, and Grace Okulu (Rugby) as the Athlete Representative for Women.
Those eyeing to become committee members are Major (Rtd) Suleiman Sumba (Taekwondo), Alexander Mutai (Rugby) and Joycelene Nyambura (Triathlon).
