16 illegal immigrants from Ethiopia rescued in Kayole, 3 suspects arrested
Detectives attached to the Transnational Organized Crimes Unit, a specialised formation domiciled within the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have rescued sixteen illegal immigrants of Ethiopian Origin from a hideout they were confined at in Matopeni area within Nairobi’s estate.
So far, three suspects, Abdullahi Hussein Mohamed aged 32, Hassan Ibrahim Godana (3) and Chari Dulacha aged 40 have been arrested and are suspected to be key mastermind behind the human trafficking syndicate engaged in illicit trade with their counterparts across the Kenyan borders.
According to preliminary findings, the victims were destined to one on the Gulf states.
Their rescue came after area resident notified police of incessant screams and yelling by a group of people coming from an unfinished building under construction within Njiru Sub-County.
From the distress calls, the victims were appealing for food.
According to a report, a manhunt for the owner of the house is currently ongoing.
The report indicated that the group had been bundled inside a two bedroom, unfinished house, just about 200metres from Kayole Police Station.
Police stated that they had been in Kenya for more than two months and were starved for the last three weeks and beaten when they ask for food.
Area police commander Paul Wambugu confirmed the incident, adding that the police are looking for the owners of the house.
This comes weeks after police rescued 18 victims of human trafficking from a house in Athi River, Machakos County.
