Four MPs drawn from Nyeri County were today unexpectedly floored in a grueling political duel for Jubilee party tickets by their opponents.
The Mps who suffered the humiliating defeat include MPs Mary Wambui, Othaya, Kabando Kabando, Mukurwe-ini, Ndungu Gethnji, Tetu and Esther Murugi of Nyeri town.
Save from Mary Wambui, who was defeated by Gichuki Mugambi who contested in 2013, the other three Mps were beaten during the primaries by aspirants who were making their first attempt in elective politics.
Kieni Mp however escaped the defeat by a big margin of votes while Mathira MP Peter Weru quit the race to the party ticket after sensing defeat by opting to go to the ballot as an independent candidate.
Wambui faced a myriad of political challenges as a result of area discontented voters who accused her of being uneducated and not being so keen to complete development projects that were intiated by former area Mp and former President Mwai Kibaki.
Hon Githinji doubles up as Chair for parliamentary committee for Defense and Foreign Relations on the other hand, faced stiff competition from more than five candidates who took advantage of her perceived hands off approach to leadership.
Some 29 of the 30 elected MCAs of the county also faced the wrath of voters after they were all denied the opportunity to fly the party flag by voters in respective wards and had the ticket handed over to their strongest opponents by way of voting.
The MCAs have issued with voters where they face accusations of sabotaging development by being in constant fight with the late Governor Nderitu Gachagua.
Nominees for the positions of Governor, Senator and Women Representative in Nyeri County were yet to be announced by the time of going to press as tallying was still ongoing at County telling centre located at Nyeri National Polytechnic.
