Yusuf Omari appointed as Absa interim CEO
Absa Bank Kenya board has appointed Yusuf Omari as interim Chief Executive Officer effective November 1, 2022.
He will succeed Jeremy Awori who was forced out and picked by Ecobank as the regional boss.
“I am confident that this appointment will help us to continue executing our strategy whilst ensuring a smooth leadership transition,” said Charles Muchene, the Absa Bank Kenya PLC Chairman of the Board.
Yusuf Omari has been Absa’s (formerly Barclays Bank Kenya) CFO since 2009.
He has previously held other positions within the bank including serving as its Regional Head of Internal Audit and as the Regional Head of Compliance.
He holds a Master’s in Business Administration from the Strathmore Business School and a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Nairobi.
He also holds an Advanced Management Programme (AMP) Certification from the International Institute of Management Development (IMD, Switzerland) and from Strathmore Business School in association with IESE Business School (Spain).
Yusuf is a Fellow of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FCPA) and a member of the Institute of Certified Internal Auditors.
