President-elect William Ruto is set to be sworn in as the fifth president on Tuesday next week at the Kasarani Stadium.
This is after the Supreme Court led by Chief Justice Martha Koome, yesterday validated his victory on the August 9 general elections.
“This is a unanimous decision. The petitions are hereby dismissed, as a consequence we declare the first respondent (Ruto) as president-elect,” Koome said.
The petition was filed by Azimio One Kenya presidential candidate Raila Odinga who rejected the results claiming that the vote was marred by irregularities.
“Any irregularities were not of such magnitude as to affect the final results of the presidential election,” she said, dismissing all the claims made by the petitioners.
The court ruled on nine issues that they had segmented and formed the backbone of the petition by Odinga and seven others.
Preparations for the swearing-in ceremony of Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua has commenced.
Officers from the Directorate of Public Communications were at Kasarani Stadium yesterday to inspect media facilities.
The committee, chaired by Joseph Kinyua, is expected to facilitate a smooth transition from the current administration to the incoming administration.
Other roles of the committee are to facilitate communication between the outgoing President and the President-elect and to carry out any other activity necessary for the performance of its functions under the Act and perform any other function assigned to it under any other written law.
Ruto’s security was upgraded immediately after he was declared the winner of the August 9 presidential election by the electoral agency.
