The country’s fatalities rise to 2,781 after 18 patients succumbed to Covid-19

The country’s Covid-19 positivity rate is now at 8.3 per cent after 137 people tested positive from a sample size of 1,641 tested in the last 24 hours.

This brings the country’s caseload to 160,559.

From the cases 129 are Kenyans while 8 are foreigners.

80 are males and 57 are females, the youngest being a 14-year-old-child while the oldest is 97 years.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said in a statement today that there are 1,265 patients currently admitted to various hospitals across the country, another, 6,614 patients are on the home-based care programme.

A total of 179 patients are in ICU, out of which 29 are on ventilatory support.

Also, 127 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen, out of which 119 are in general wards and eight in the HDU.

Meanwhile, 216 patients have recovered from the disease out of which 170 were from the Homebased care program while 46 were discharged from various health facilities.

Kenya’s recoveries now stand at 109,077.

However, 18 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours; 9 having occurred on diverse dates within the last one month while 9 are late death reports from facility record audits.

This now pushes cumulative fatalities to 2,781.

In terms of vaccination, Kagwe said 887,034 persons have so far been vaccinated against the Covid-19 disease countrywide.

Of these 516,616 are aged 58 years and above together with the others category; health workers 158,168; teachers 137,701 and security officers are 74,554.
