Uhuru orders lockdown in Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, Kiambu and Nakuru Counties

Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, Kiambu and Nakuru counties are individually and collectively declared a disease infected area.

In a Presidential address, President Uhuru Kenyatta ceased the movement by road, rail, air in to and out of these areas effective midnight.

“All gatherings and in-person meetings of whatever nature are suspended within Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, Kiambu and Nakuru counties until further notice. All in-person meetings of Cabinet and its committees also suspended,” he said.

The counties were put under cessation of movement for the next 30 days since they have been declared as a disease infected area.

The speakers of Parliament of the infested counties are to effect the suspension of the ordinary sessions of August House and County Assemblies.

“All physical and in-person as well as congregational worship in all places of worship in Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, Kiambu and Nakuru stand suspended. In the other 42 counties, worship will continue as per guidelines of Inter-faith council,” he added.

Operation of bars is suspended in the five infested zones which shall commence midnight.

The sale of alcohol in restaurants and eateries in the 5 counties is prohibited they shall provide takeaway services only.
